At the system’s edge, rangefinders return contradictory distances and familiar stars no longer hold their shape. Ships that cross the boundary lose coherence on the radio or disappear.

Every 7.3 days, that pressure reaches the inhabited system. Reactor output can falter, cargo records change, drones leave their work and nearby ships turn hostile for reasons nobody can explain afterwards.

Each faction has built a response: Ximeng suspends permits, Chloamy fills the bars, Sancturia gathers in its furnace-temples. The surge passes. Altered cargo, damaged machinery and the reports people filed remain.

Sunfarers

Sunfarers crew the ships that keep seven ports supplied with cargo, news, rescue and route knowledge. They live where they work: bunks, meals, cleaned floors and maintained fittings keep the crew fit for the next passage and make the hull feel real after a bad one.

Many touch the hull before departure. The gesture asks the same thing of metal and crewmates: hold together one more time.

A yellow dwarf, stable across billions of years. Six planets, an inhabited moon, a freeport station and a contested belt orbit it. The catalogue designation is forgotten in everyday use. Most people just call it the sun.

Its light warms the radiator fields of IO-28, feeds the furnace-temples on Sancturia’s mesa-tops, marks time for seven civilisations that measure their calendars by its pull. 688 years since the silence fell, and every morning it rises the same.
